Childswork's Kindergarten is a natural extension to our preschool where the children’s interests guide the curriculum creating an engaging learning environment for children. We use the Lucy Calkins Reading program that encourages children to see themselves as readers no matter what stage they are at. Our Story Workshop invites children to create stories based on their play. Children bring their problem-solving strategies and number skills to real-world problems in Math Investigations. Ample outside time and flexible seating ensure that growing bodies get to move as much as needed. Of course, supporting these young learners is the focus of our work as we explicitly teach self-regulation skills and People Power skills. Our kindergarten programs have a maximum of 20 students with 2 experienced, certified teachers, which ensures that every child’s needs are met. As the oldest children in our school, kindergarteners at Childswork also take on a leadership role in our community, taking on special projects and helping with younger children.
